EIIA Student Insurance Program
The EIIA Student Insurance Program was established in 1976. The Program provides a variety of accident and health plans for traditional, non-traditional, domestic and international students. The Student Program serves the students including those that participate in intercollegiate sports, and provides underwriting, development of new programs, oversight of large or difficult claims, and provider discounts. The EIIA Staff possess over 25 years of experience in the student insurance market.
The Student plans are designed to provide benefits in excess of any other insurance available to the student and are customized for each individual. In the absence of any underlying insurance, the plans provide primary coverage. Deductibles are the choice of the institution.
The plans offered include intercollegiate sports, mandatory accident & health, hard waiver accident & health, international student insurance and travel abroad coverage. The EIIA Student Insurance Program currently serves over 70 private institutions.
•
Retrospective Refund Arrangement: The Student Program offers plan design options ranging from an intercollegiate sports plan to a comprehensive supplemental medical plan. The five major student plans are underwritten on a retrospective-rating basis. The cost of each plan varies depending on the features selected by the institution and their individual loss experience. The goal of the program is to cover the cost of claims and administration and return the surplus balance to the institution. Historically, surplus premiums returned to our participants have averaged 18% of the total premiums billed.
•
International Student Plan: The EIIA International Student Plan exceeds the plan requirements mandated by the United States Information Agency (USIA) for J1 Visa students and scholars. In addition to the comprehensive accident and health coverage, the plan provides excellent travel assistance services through Assist America.
•
Athletic Gap Plan: In response to the $75,000 deductible imposed by the NCAA, a separate Catastrophic Athletic Gap Plan was developed to provide the additional $50,000 layer of coverage and protect the institutions from a $75,000 claim under the retrospective rated plan. This plan is a fully insured plan that also provides a $10,000 Accidental Death Benefit.
•
Catastrophic Athletic Plan: EIIA also offers catastrophic athletic coverage for intramural and club sports. This plan has a $25,000 deductible that may be satisfied by the basic accident coverage provided through the club association or the institution.
•
Seminary Student Plan: EIIA offers a hard waiver comprehensive plan for seminary students and their dependents. The plan was developed with input from seminary students and is available at a very competitive rate.
•
Summer Sports Camp Coverage: Although most students are gone for the summer, campuses continue to provide Educational opportunities to non-traditional and prospective students during the break. EIIA also offers coverage for summer camps and special groups that come on the campus and require accident medical coverage.
•
Travel Abroad Coverage: EIIA offers a comprehensive Travel Abroad Plan that provides coverage for students as well as instructors traveling with students overseas for Educational programs during the academic year. An important component of the plan is the travel assistance services provided through Assist America for medical emergencies that occur overseas.
•
Global Emergency Assistance Services: Emergency assistance coverage provides an array of emergency medical and personal assistance services, including access to doctor, hospitals and pharmacies whenever an eligible participant is traveling 100+ miles from their permanent address, campus address or another country. In addition to pre-trip information, students are provided unlimited coverage for medical evacuation and repatriation without concern for pre-existing or suicide limitations.
